Microdosing while working from home

Working from home is either the best thing to happen to you or the worst. Two years into this new normal, most of us haven’t really figured out the best way to manage our work responsibilities and family lives when both exist under one roof.

If the last two years taught us anything, it’s that we need to be mindful of how we cope with our stress. And as addiction and substance abuse rates continue to climb the deeper we get into this new COVID world, it’s time to consider if microdosing is right for you.

What is microdosing?

It’s exactly what it sounds like: consuming small amounts of a substance throughout the day to help manage symptoms of muscle pain and pressure, depression, anxiety and a myriad of other health conditions. Fans of psilocybin and LSD have used this method for decades to maintain their physical and mental health. And cannabis is no different. Cannabis is medicine and it should be treated as such. Consume too much too quickly and you’re not going to have the productive work day you wanted.

Why microdose?

We’ve all done it… you have a really stressful day at work. You come home, spark up and feel the stress and tension melt away. It’s a proven method, but it’s not as efficient as it could be. By maintaining a low level of cannabis all day, you can alleviate pain or discomfort and still stay aware and alert enough to not get distracted during that 4pm Zoom meeting.

How do I microdose?

The important thing about microdosing is to make sure your doses are actually micro. The last thing you want is to consume too much. In doing so, you run the risk of greening out and losing an afternoon. You also raise your tolerance, which is the last thing you want.  It may take you a couple tries until you find the amount that suits your needs. You’ll want to smoke or vape a fraction of what you could normally consume recreationally. Low dose edibles like gummies can take a lot of the guesswork out of microdosing, since it can be as easy as popping a gummy bear in your mouth every couple hours. Again: the purpose of microdosing is not to achieve lift off. What you want is the physical effects of cannabis without feeling sluggish or tired.

There is a lot that’s subjective with this process including how much to consume and how frequently you consume. But knowing your tolerance, your limits, and your body can help maximize your new work from home lifestyle and give you the flexibility to see if microdosing works for you.
