Do you know which plant among cannabis and hemp can be sold more easily? Are you aware of the factors that affect selling hemp versus cannabis? Continue reading to learn all about the differences.
What Is Cannabis?
Cannabis is a term used for three different plants with sedating properties. These plants are cannabis indica, cannabis sativa, and cannabis ruderalis, and they all consist of compounds called cannabinoids, such as CBD, THC, CBC, and CBG. Studies indicate that the consumption of cannabis can be helpful for pain, nausea, appetite, and glaucoma. However, it can also produce short-term effects such as giddiness, relaxation, increased appetite, altered perception of events and time, decreased focus, and increased creativity.
Cannabis is federally illegal in the United States; however, several states have already legalized its medical as well as recreational use. In some states, it is only legal for medical use for particular health conditions; however, in other states, consuming it for recreational or medical purposes are both permitted.
What Is Hemp?
Hemp, weed, cannabis, and marijuana are all different terms for the cannabis plant; the only difference is the amount of intoxicating tetrahydrocannabinol in cannabis and hemp. Generally, the hemp plant contains very little tetrahydrocannabinol and high concentrations of the very famous therapeutic cannabinoid called CBD.
Historically, people have used hemp to relieve high cholesterol, eczema, arthritis, constipation, and many other health concerns. Recently, due to the immense popularity of hemp-derived CBD and its medicinal potential, hemp has made its way to the mainstream. Studies show that CBD has potent healing properties that can help manage epilepsy, acne, pain, anxiety, and inflammation.
Under federal law, hemp manufacturing, growth, processing, and selling are all legal. This change happened when the Farm Bill was passed in 2018 in an attempt to legalize cannabidiol, a principal component of hemp. According to the bill, the hemp plant and its derived products are legal as long as they only contain 0.3% or less THC. The same goes for CBD products as well.
Which One Is Easier to Sell, Cannabis or Hemp?
Among these two, selling hemp products is significantly easier compared to cannabis because of the illegal status of cannabis and the strict laws and regulations regarding its recreational and even medicinal use. Selling a product like cannabis that is considered illegal seems like a big hassle for retailers as well as manufacturers.
Another reason hemp is easier to sell is that hemp is available in a variety of forms and products. Many of its compounds, such as CBD and other cannabinoids, are available in the form of a variety of products. Although the ambiguous legal status of cannabis does not encourage manufacturers to produce a variety of cannabis products, you will come across a few categories such as vape or smoke items. Therefore, when hemp has so many options to offer, it becomes easier to sell it to a wide variety of people with different needs.
